Radiator and heater hose / pipes for mk5 2.5 Di

Postby Mk5swbhighroof » Sat Feb 10, 2018 11:54 am

Well, I've tried the search function, but it's like looking for a needle in a stack of needles....

The pipe from the thermostat to the cab heater has chaffed through, and the top hose to the radiator looks like it's past its best too, so looking for replacements. Thinking of replacing other pipes whilst I'm at it. Local scrapyard has none, or doesn't want to know, and the choice online is somewhat confusing, i.e. when searching for a top hose, using the year and type of engine, different pipes come up, even from the same seller?

Can you 'make your own' from suitable radiator pipe? I have a local supplier. Is there a list of the various hose diameters on line (none in the Haynes "manual")?
Or can anybody recommend a good place to get new pipes.

Thanks

Hi, I replaced the pipe from the thermostat to the cab heater by standard straight rad hose, diameter 16 x 23 mm, about 4 quid per metre. When I mounted it in a wide bow, it would fit. Won't work for the top hose to the radiator though but, as it's only about a tenner aftermarket, I would just buy one that fits.

Ciao, Kai

Have you tried Ford if they still do them it’s worth checking for a price or try one of the companies that makeup silicone hoses

You just need to make sure the shape of the top hose is the same as yours, some are L shaped, 90 degree bend and others S shaped. http://www.transitcenter.uk/?cPath=7_44&

Thanks guys. I'm in the engine bay today, the repair is holding so far, so I'll order a replacement online, and I'll order the top hose aswell. I think the rest of the pipes and hose are in reasonable nick, so I'll leave them for now. I just found a potentially bigger problem anyway. But I'll put that in a new post, to keep it relevant.

Thanks.
