MT75 transmission: Mounting input shaft without special tool

Postby maze44 » Tue Feb 20, 2018 1:25 pm

Hi Guys,

i'm currently overhauling my MT75 transmission of my MK5 Transit. I want to renew the main shaft input bearing.

But now, i'm facing with the problem, that i didn't know how i should mount the new bearing. I didn't have the special tool which is described here http://www.super7thheaven.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/ldv-mt75-mvp105601gb.pdf on page 37.

The guy in the following thread, is using a hammer and a block of wood.
http://www.fordtransitforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=35859&sid=1e0eb4879aed86d78fe2a7b5c107c9d6&start=15#p344863

In my point of view, he will harm the new input bearing, because the force is transmitted via the rolling elements in the bearing.

Could someone describe his procedere to mount the input bearing an reassembly the transmission?

Thanks a lot!

PS: Sorry for my bad english...

the gearbox has to be split to change the bearing, you want to fit the bearing in the casing then "pull" the front casing on as per page 37

Repair gearbox costs more than buying another, serviceable.

If i do so, the force of the screws will harm the new bearing.

Every transmission here in germany runs already high km. I think, it wont make sense to buy such a transmission.

I would take it to a transmission shop and get it checked and reassembled with hopefully some warranty. At least you will be certain there's no damage or silly mistakes. That's unless you enjoy removing a gearbox as a hobby.

Bearing fitting.

Always drive inners on to shafts, and outers into cases. Never drive to opposing element when fitting.

Hi Jim, as i wrote in my first post, this is exactly my problem and at the moment impossible without the ford special tool.

Its not my hobby, its my profession.

Anyway, i think i will rebuild the special tool to fit the bearing.
