If it's leaking at the shaft, it probably mean the seal seat is worn or damaged.

What grade of oil are you using?

I do not think that the grade of oil is so important.
The probable cause of oil leakage along the shaft is the wear of the seal.
To replace the stuffing box, remove the timing belt, remove the camshaft sprocket, remove the intermediate sleeve from the camshaft and remove the oil seal from the socket.
In my opinion, the best stuffing box is Teflon.
Lubricate the oil seal from the outside and install into the socket.
Inspect the bushing, if there are signs of wear on it, then replace the bushing.
You can install the stuffing box to a different depth.
Replace the rubber seal on the bushing.
Install the bushing in place.
Install the pulley and timing belt.

I only mentioned grade of oil as I used 5w30 (recomended by ford now)
and had many oil seals weep/leak.

asking an engine that was designed to run with 15w40 mineral oil when made and then saying 5w30 synthetic 20 years later is a bit much.
I found a compromise was 10w40 semi synthetic.
wear on the shaft/housing and you will never get a seal.

It is critical the seal is straight otherwise it will leak, i would use the genuine item

All work has been carried out by a ford tech so im sure oil is correct , weve ordered another new genuine seal and a replacement sleeve for the end of the cam shaft.
i was really just wondering how many others have suffered this problem. will post what we find when we compare the new and old parts

Teflon oil seals are produced by VICTOR REYNZ.The last time I changed the front crankshaft oil seal six months ago, Victor Reinz used. There were problems with installing the oil seals in the saddle.
This sometimes happens when packing oil seals.
