This could be totally rubbish......best try it on an old UJ. Worked for me.
If you can remove the staking ring you will find the circlip grooves are ready for new circlips. How you get the staking rings out is up to you. Possibly a very small, sharp chisel.

I know they are there 'cos I power-hacksawed a UJ to pieces, knocked out the cup inwards and there was the groove.

As I say...etc.

Hey,100ps_drw_hicube
Crossings in the propeller shafts are fixed without locking rings (circlips)?

Do I understand correctly?

staked UJ.JPG
FYI.Crossings i.e. spider bearing cups are fixed in place using rings staked into the circlip grooves.

Replacement of crosses in this case is not a problem.
It is necessary to remove the cardan shaft from the machine.
To do this, unscrew the four bolts securing the cardan to the rear axle, four bolts securing the cardan to the gearbox, and unscrew the two suspension bearings.
On the problem cross, blow the hammer through a round spacer to precipitate the cups and remove the locking rings from the fork holes using special tongs .
Tongs for removing retaining rings.

Then remove the cups of the cross from the holes, clean the holes of dirt and rust, grease and assemble the cardan with new crossings.
I've done it many times.

Yes correct there’s no circlips as above it’s got a staked ring obviously easier for fords at the factory just didn’t want to damage the the prop I have one that completely failed so I might give a sharp chisel a go. I have noticed the new uj comes with circlips and also a grease nipple 8) Will post back tomorrow let you know how I get on

Any or most of the national garage spares stockists will have the spider and circlips.

Any one trying to remove the STAKED rings please send pics showing the tools you used, not circlip pliers!

Could be a bit difficult to read...(Dutch) but the pictures have a more international language.
It would surprise me if you couldn't find something like this in English...
I think this is another way on looking at the problem
Good luck, please keep us informed

If I understand correctly, no garage wants to replace the crossings on the cardan without locking rings.
This is logical.
Without special equipment for correct installation of the cruciform cups and balancing of the propshaft, it is impossible to correctly replace the cross pieces.
Correctly executed work will cost more than buying another propeller shaft, with locking rings.
Attention!
Do not buy cheap Chinese cardans!
Look for disassembly of the Turkish cardans.

I dug out an old section of propshaft to investigate........I drilled a hole and then levered and removed the cups and the cross, there is no groove for a circlip in any of the propshaft ends, I found another section to play with but somebody has previously changed the uj and welded the cups in!

no grooves for circlips
