Mk3 Ambulance - Proud new owner/Few questions!

Postby AJ303 » Sat Mar 10, 2018 5:23 pm

Hi all,

Apologies in advance for any obvious questions asked - have tried googling but only seem to get endless advertising!
Just bought an old 1991 Transit 160 Ambulance, needs a bit of TLC.

First of all the dash lights/dipped beam are very dim (main beam is fine), so hopefully it's just a matter of replacing some bulbs.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of removing the dash assembly/also the headlight?

Many thanks, sure will probably have more questions along the way!

May be bulbs, but also likely to be a dodgy plug or wiring

Hi finn, thanks for your response. Could you point me in the right direction of checking this? Any wiring maintenance info for this model would be much appreciated.

Ordered a Haynes manual, just waiting for it to arrive and wanna get cracking!

Cheers

You can change the bulbs out first - hopefully that'll resolve the issue.

If not, using a multimeter, check the voltage you're getting at the plug terminals. A good connection (either plug or wiring) should put out close to 12v.

Your Haynes manual will give you the best advice though!

Hi,AJ303!
Old headlight are a bad light.
I have Transit 90 years ten years and already twice changed headlights.
There may be bad contact in the headlight switch on the steering wheel.
There may be a bad contact in the fuse box.
Bad contacts get hot during operation.

Meant to add... If you don't find 12v, keep going back up the circuit until you do.
