Do you know what this is ?

Postby fuzzedup » Wed Mar 14, 2018 1:03 pm

Hi all, just a quickie. Could someone please tell me what this item is highlighted by a arrow in the attached picture (not my engine but best I could find). I noticed a oil dripping from one of the hoses last nite whilst under the van.
cheers
Paul

Yes.
This is a boosting fuel pump.
Oil leakage can be on a joint of the pump and the block of cylinders or inside the pump on an epiploon of the rod.
In the first case, the unit is in oil, the pump itself is clean.
In the second case, oil flows from the hole in the pump casing, in the oil itself, the pump and the cylinder block.
Another oil can flow out from under the cover of the timing mechanism.
Look!

Brilliant, thats most helpful. Im sure its one of the hoses has come lose, but thats just having a quick look and feel. also I did notice that the hoses are just push on and dont use jubilee clips. Is there a reason for this on would it be ok to tighten it up with a jubilee clip ??

No they have rubber seals in then and they have sharp metal blades that lock them onto the pipe.
If you see the plastic square tab you push that and another 1 in and gently twist the pipe and pull it away to remove.

If 1 is leaking you might need a new o ring.

Also check to make sure its not a leak from the rocker cover, or somewhere higher up on the engine that is running down onto the lift pump.

I called the oil leakage points.
The only place of fuel leakage can be a connection between the pressure connection of the boost pump and the fuel pipe leading to the fuel filter.
They can be connected by a piece of oil-resistant hose with an internal diameter of 8 mm with two steel clips at the ends. The quick-assembly device on the tube should simply be cut off and the hose and tube connected with a hose.
You can buy another quick-change device and replace the faulty one.

But the hose connection is more reliable.

This man got it spot on. At the moment the front of the van is high on blocks whilst its being welded and indeed the oil is leaking from the rocker cover. Its starting at the front, following its way back to the rear, dripping down the block then onto the lift pump. Looks like a new gasket could be in order. Any body got any tips whilst changing there ??

Cheers
