If it’s the same as a York it’s above oil filter just behind the alloy houseing that everything that bolts to the front of engine it’s probably be a 20 mil to 24 mil plug with a spring and plunger in it the plunger runs in a bush that wears .if you look between injection pump and top of oil filter you should see it to get to it you may have to remove the water pipe work

Hi guys!
The pressure relief valve of the engine lubrication system is not to blame for the oil leakage.
Do not touch him!
transit1160,you wrote that you planted the oil seal to the stop in the fixing plate of the camshaft.
This is your mistake.
You eliminated the gap along which oil could drain into the sump pan.
Now he squeezes it through the oil seal.
Check the presence of the radial backlash of the end of the camshaft.
If you feel a backlash, there will be a leak of oil.

Well i just replace the seal for the 4th time yesterday and i installed it at 8mm distance from the front cover. And its still leaking on high revs. But i noticed that the camshaft pulley wobble a bit. Same as the fuel pump pulley. Any experience on a bent camshaft?

Dumper - i only saw an allen socket type of nut below the fuel pump. Not using the standard nut i believe.

The oil pressure relief valve will not be your problem ,if it is stuck closed it will burst the oil filter   Can you post some photos of the seal in place with the sprocket not in place :?:

bambi mk 1 - i will send photos as soon as i removed the timing belt and clean the engine again. now i have used a genuine oil seal from the dealer. it was made in 2004. when i removed the seal from the plastic...it feels quite stiff and FEBI seal even worst very solid. i own a transit MK7 and i kept a new seal for the mk7 and it was soft comparing the seal for the mk5. it seems that they didnt make the seal for the mk5 anymore all i get was new old stocks.

If there is a noticeable radial play of the camshaft pulley, it will be difficult to avoid leaking oil.
With a radial play, the camshaft does not rotate in the bearings, it precesses around the axis of rotation.
The correct, but expensive solution is to replace the camshaft and its sliding bearings with new ones.
You can look for and find an oil seal made of softer rubber.
You can shorten the steel spring by about 1 or 2 mm, which tightens the "lip" of the oil seal.
But the oil seal rubber should be soft.
I had a very old engine with a camshaft backlash, but there was no oil leak.
Now I have another motor, no backlash, but because of the bad oil seal there was a leak of oil.
I replaced the omentum, the leak stopped.

hello, an update. just removed the timing belt again today to inspect the seal and sleeve. and i noticed that there's a seal mark left on the sleeve. a new sleeve with a bit of groove done by the seal itself. and only the end of the seal is touching the sleeve. on the seal itself...there's 3 original grooves that was made to prevent any oil leaks. but i can tell you that only 1 groove is touching the sleeve. which means only the end of the seal lips touching the sleeve. i dont see that it will make enough sealing with only the end of the seal lip. plus, i haven't drive the transit with the new seal and sleeve but it has already made a groove marks on the sleeve. something must be wrong. i also found out that the seal itself is solid as a rock clearly an new old stock. and i measured the seal inside diameter it was 47.6mm and its also stamped on the seal 47.6 and here is the fun part, the outside diameter of the sleeve also 47.6mm. shouldn't the sleeve be bigger than the seal inside diameter itself?

Should be more.
An oil seal can have several working edges and only the last lip with a spring retains the oil.
Those edges that are in front of it, serve as a protection against dust.

If the seal is the same size as the sleeve I cant see it holding much oil back?

that's what i thought. the seal barely sit on the sleeve. my next move is to send the sleeve to the machineshop and make it slightly bigger hopefully the seal will have enough surface area to seat properly on the sleeve.

hi guys, i have upload the picture of the sleeve and need your experience about it. since the groove is so narrow, to me the seal is not seating wide enough. i might be wrong?

yes the o -ring was new and i also put sealant on it. now waiting for the machineshop to finish resizing the sleeve and fabricate installer tool for the seal. the installer tool will ensure that the seal seated straight and 6mm depth from the front plate. hopefully it works
