Mk3 transit total electrical failure / fusible link

Postby smokythc » Wed Mar 28, 2018 4:17 pm

Hi, I was taking my mk3 transit 2.0 pinto for a mot today, left petrol garage made it about 2 foot away from pump and lost all electrics apart from radio went off and van cut out. Checked battery terminals all tight ended up having to power up ignition coil to battery and a wire to starter to get it to run. Anyone got any ideas? I do kinda remember old fords had a fusible link somewhere in loom? Would this cause the no ignition and no starter motor?

Apart from that the old girl didn't do bad at mot, steering rack gaitor, low handbrake reading one side and a centre seatbelt missing

Hi,smokythc.
There are no fuses in the ignition and starter circuits.
I do not have electrical schemes for petrol FT.
I can only say that somewhere in there is a break in the chain from the battery to the fuse block.
Check the red is not the thickest wire going from the battery to the fuse box.

They did used to melt the connector where ignition switch plugs into main loom,
Under the bottom steering column cover about 6 pins in a square block.
