LEZs - Is there an alternative to replacing the engine?

Postby frankieboy231 » Sat Mar 31, 2018 7:37 pm

I don't know is this has been discussed before but is there an alternative to replacing the diesel engine in a MK5 by attacking the emissions by fitting an exhaust filter system instead? Is anything available? is it a viable alternative to the expense and hassle of an engine change? Any thoughts.

The last time I checked, the required filter was around 2 grand, and upwards, and needed checking and testing every year.
But that was at least 6 years ago when I was trying to get a Mk5 compliant :)

slap a V6 or V8 petrol engine in it

Nothing else would be cost effective.

Assuming yours is a motorhome, if it's a small one it might be worth downrating it to under 2.5 tonnes gross to become LEZ exempt. If it's a big 'en you're stuffed.

Why would you want to drive into that there London anyway? I took a coach last week. Easily half the cost of the fuel, no parking problems or cost, and no wear and tear on the van 8) :D
