Change, there will be no harm.
"Thoughtfulness" of the motor can be associated with late injection or improper adjustment of injection pump.

the rod opens the butterfly in the inlet.
If it's missing the egr has more than likely been blanked off.
If the butterfly is present and closed with no rod to open it................. :( air starvation.

If there is no "rod" connecting the lever to the injection pump and the "butterfly" in the manifold, the car does not go and smokes strongly with black smoke.
It is necessary to remove the rubber hose at the entrance to the manifold and see the state of the "butterfly".
It can be fixed in the open state or dismantled.
You call this kind of manifold "banana"?

We call this "crab".

Hi Cherniy,yes that's what i have.
My friend checked the inlet butterfly for me and cable tied it open. The egr wasn't blanked off so he made a plate for me and has fitted it.Hopefully this will help :)
Just waiting to fit a new fuel filter and Thermostat housing later today(cracked)
So is the Banana inlet an improvement on the other type?

If you have the 5.14 diff and plenty of money / desire to lower the engine revs / increase top speed you could add a Laycock J type overdrive after the MT 75, as I have. Fairly simple bolt on job. My Smiley with a 4.11 diff does 70 mph at 2500 in overdrive.

This is well suited to long wheel base camper vans with the TDi engine?
There's pics on here.

The banana inlet was an attempt to introduce a ram inlet effect to increase the BHP. Added all of 3-4 BHP I believe.
The green bit on the rev counter is the alleged economic rev range, similar to turbo charged HGVs...ha.

Thanks for that Vanfox :) I shall check out the pics! Took it out today and the clean air filter(old one was well clogged up)& the EGR blanked off has definitely made a difference in acceleration.Felt like a different Van.I was doing about 65mph at 3000 revs so i guess it will do 70 within the 4000 rpm limit.I do like the sound of an overdrive though :)

I did an engineswap also.
This winter I replaced the whole exhaust with Turbo accomodating 6,5 cm pipes. That differs a lot!
