Bosch pump help needed

Postby Gibbo.400 » Tue Apr 17, 2018 8:57 am

Hi i've recently fitted a recon Bosch pump to my 2.5di . Ever since I've put the new pump on there's a lot of black smoke when you put your foot down , overall engine noise has increased from before the pump change and its using more diesel.
Been told the pumps over-fuelling, can anyone point me in the right direction on which screw(s) to adjust on the pump ? . Or any other ideas on why the engine noise has picked up etc , Many thanks in advance

Black smoke during diesel operation is a sign of excess fuel and / or lack of air.
After replacing the injection pump, the amount of air did not change, so the amount of fuel supplied to the cylinders increased.
Excess fuel can be due to increased supply by the injection pump itself or due to improper adjustment of the injectors.
Over time, the opening pressure of the injectors and this can give black smoke.
But most likely fuel supply to the fuel pump is increased. On the side of the steel tubes in the pump there is a screw M8 with a lock nut. By twisting this screw it is possible to reduce the fuel supply. The screw needs to be twisted by 1/2 turn, not more. And do a test drive.
The loud work of the motor is always connected with the wrong setting of the injection moment-this is a sign of an early injection.
It is necessary to unscrew the four bolts (on machines up to 92 years old-three) of fastening the pulley of the injection pump and turn the TNVD shaft counter-clockwise.

It's interesting the recon pump wasn't reset to slow mode

have the security caps been refitted?
2 adjusters for "over fueling"
Alan screw with 13mm lock nut on top of pump.
Screw on the back of the pump (near the idle adjustment) is the black smoke screw.

As mentioned though...........
Get more air into the engine and fuel will burn more efficently reducing smoke.

is the advance on the pulley wheel spot on and did you remember to refit and adjust your EGR bar that connects from the linkage to the EGR? Had the same issue, did adjustments and have no smoke, didnt have to even touch fueling.

Worst case that happens to the best of is is the belt on right? try get all the timing pins in, you might be one tooth out, should be a tight fit when fitting it.
