Bosh pump timing and injector preassures info needed

Postby VMH » Tue Apr 17, 2018 10:38 pm

Hi.
Can anyone tell me what the standard lift is when setting the timing on the Bosh pump fitted to a '95 2.5 DI?
Also what the opening pressures are for Stanodyne blue spot and green spot injectors?
Thanks
:-)

There is a chart on here somewhere, I've got it bookmarked on my other pc so I'll dig it out tomorrow, but IIRC blue are 100ps and green are 70ps, pump timing is 6.8 degrees, I had to back mine off from that slightly once fitted to get the sweet spot.

Thanks for that.
So if all the injectors are the same pressure what is the difference between the colour spots? I assumed that different colours were different opening pressures.
Does it make any difference if they are set at higher or lower pressures from standard or is it only important to set them all within tolerance?

Different size injector nozzles flow more or less fuel, opening pressures are best set to standard settings.

Nozzles with different color markings are different
the diameter of the nozzle openings, the height of the lifting of the needle, and, possibly, other features of the structure that I did not know.
The nozzles used on the TD are shorter by 2 mm and have long Teflon rings, a thick protruding part, another spring and a drain cap.

Oh. I have one red spot and three green spot's in my van. I was thinking I could just balance the opening pressures but it sounds like I need to replace the red with green first.
It had red originally. The green came out of a scrap van.
One flowing more fuel would account for the smoke under load. :-)

Green 33405 : http://www.dieselpartsworld.com/33405.html
Red 33406: http://www.dieselpartsworld.com/33406.html
33406 has a nozzle diameter of 0.22 mm against 0.20 for 33405.
I think that the smoke is caused by an incorrect setting of the opening pressure of the injectors -low.
Or improperly setting the injection pump.

Ok. 0.02mm is not a huge difference, I guess.
I'm thinking about building my own pop tester as I don't trust the only diesel repair place near me too much. Just need the time to do it.
