2.5DI no lift pump

Postby ceurieusneus » Thu May 10, 2018 7:24 am

For the Transit Brains
My MK3 has no fuel lift pump, and no hand pump on the fuel filter...
Bosch pump.
What's the best way to change the fuel filter, preferable without getting air in the high pressure system. :?
Thanks guys

Fill new filter up with clean fuel keep tapping it to get air bubbles out re fit make sure you get it on right to get a good seal then start engine with at least half revs for a minute or so and you should be ok

I would add: Before removing the filter get the engine warm so that if you do get air into the system you don't have to spend time churning over a cold engine on the starter.

Just fill the new filter with diesel & start the engine & let it idle, the Bosch pump holds a quite a bit of fuel

Thank you guys
Followed all your advices...
Peace of cake...
No problems at all :D

Anyhow, i would feel much more secure if my transit had a lift pump...
What about putting an electrik lift pump somewhere near the fuel tank?
Anybody has any expeariance with it? 8)

Mines got no lift pump either, I just fill the filter and start with with a little throttle, although I did use a 12v pump to prime my injection pumps when I swapped two of them recently.

You are better without one trust me i had a two fails with them both on long way from home. And on transit the fuel tank is close and fuel pump can drive it peace of cake. Only you watch when changing filter to fill it and thats it and have a big syringe close if it cought some air and no problem

Before replacing, fill the new fuel filter with fuel.
Have at least half the fuel tank.
