Dealing with rust in the chassis?

Postby vanfox » Sun Jun 10, 2018 1:43 pm

How do you get rust proofing treatments into the chassis legs? Do you use a spray gun or pour it into holes in the floor, or what?
How do you get the flakes of rust out?

I typically use a compressor + cavity wax gun to get the wax in the chassis legs

Getting the flakes out of there can be difficult. If you're making repairs it's easiest to attach a thin hose to the end of a vacuum cleaner and run that through the beams. If that is not possible, I use compressed air in a hole on one side of the beam, and put the vacuum cleaner on the biggest hole on the other side and try to blow it out.

I use the same equipment as Riggard, with a longer hose, but I use a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and white spirit. It spreads, soaks under rust & into seams. It takes about a week to go tacky.
