240 or 270mm clutch?

Postby Retrohowla » Tue Jun 12, 2018 5:37 pm

Afternoon chaps, a little advice if you'd all be so kind please.
I have a 94/95 2.5td, 100ps and mt75 in my MK2, manual Bosch pump, boost and fuelling wound up, intercooled, 255/70/16 all terrain tyres and a 4.11 diff, she'll pull a ton without too much bother. Average weight 3-3.2t
She's running a 270mm clutch.
I need to replace the clutch as it judders like a sod.
The trouble is, I'm struggling to find a good quality, fairly priced 270mm clutch kit anywhere. Local factors want £250 for an Luk.
Is anyone running a tuned turbo DI In a lwb, through a 240mm clutch without issues?
Any input would be greatfully received.

Sorted now, managed to source a 270mm through Ralph.
It would still be good to know for future reference if the 240mm would handle my set-up.

High power requires a large contact area of friction clutch discs.
In your circumstances, the service life / mileage of the clutch 240 mm will be half as much as the 270 mm clutch.
You need a sudden repair with a loss of money-put a clutch 240 mm.
But you already put 270 mm.
It is right!

Defender V8 clutch is the same. I buy plates and covers seperately. AP racing ones about £120 the pair

Actually much cheaper than that

CP5077-14 and CP5077-15.

Just bought a plate and cover (AP racing) for £60

Nice one thanks for this info, everywhere seemed to suggest the 240mm was fine for TD applications, even the Jumbo's, but I had my doubts it would with my setup, hence my search for a 270mm.
Matt thanks for the heads up there, I'll check them out

My old '92 mk4 150s, had the bigger turbo spec clutch fitted from the factory as an svo option.
It was AA van new,and had the 80ps banana engine with the 5:13 diff.
Good idea knowing the towing use it would get working for the AA.

Hello Transit drivers. As a new forum member I would like to ask my first question here. I also want to upgrade to a 270mm clutch in my camper. In the camper conversion partslist, Ford usses a different clutch cable that is not availbel anymore. Do I need it? I also need dowel pins for centering the pressure plate, which are also not avaible anymore. Other solutions? Thanks for helping out!
