Mk3 gearbox issues

Postby BUNGAL » Wed Jun 20, 2018 8:48 pm

I’ve got a mk3 20 ltr petrol motorhone in for some welding,

Nothing serious it’s actually very solid,

But to select reverse you had to really smack the the selector to select reverse,

It’s only a 4 speed

No overdrive,
Reverse is just a pig,
I’m sure I’ve got a type 9 5 speed in the shed but know it was from a diesel,

What is required to change them over is the prop different?

Hello,
you need not a lot, just change the transmissions bell....and the cardan shaft, should be shorter by the 5 speed gearbox.
Good luck.

Same as on my 1.6, but I'd just assumed it was because it's been sitting for three years...
