Water outlet fitting

Postby P4t » Thu Jun 28, 2018 4:41 pm

Hi, has anyone got a part number for the water outlet that screws into the front of the head for the heater pipe connection, they tend to corrode & I have replaced a few over the years but not coming up in a Google with a part number.
I need a few of them.
I have found one place stocking them but no part number which is what I am seeking, I did search for a parts catalogue download on the forum but surprised not to find one or maybe I missed it ?

Hi, I've found some today using that part number, but yes you don't have to use the ford item.

These fittings do corrode from the inside & can break off & they often snap when you try to remove them & require the hole tapping out to clear the debris, any attempt to fit a new one without clearing the hole with the correct tap just gets messy
The thread is an NPT taper thread '3/8 18tpi'
I just bought another tap on ebay from China which took 2 weeks to arrive & cost £2.79

Yes you're right why did I bother posting all that .... Oh I remember
...i messed about with hacksaw blades like that back in the day, you can get the Alloy remains out, but it never resulted in a thread that would take the new fitting more than 2 or 3 threads, they almost always need tapping out more for a nice job & having the tap makes it a joy to do.

Finding or making a fitting is not a problem.
The main thing is to remove the remnants of the fitting from the hole in the head.
Aluminum for this fitting is not the best material choice.
Aluminum is corroded and corrosion-damaged thread of the fitting is difficult to remove from the cast-iron head.
And from aluminum, it would be almost impossible.
Make a fitting of steel or bronze and forget about it.

They are fine in aluminium & last for many year's if the correct coolant mix is maintained & changed when it should be, it's on badly neglected engines run on straight tap water that corrodes them, I just replace them when I buy an engine for peace of mind as they corrode from the inside.
I've not had one rot that I've fitted because I regularly renew my antifreeze.

Everyone has their own quirks. :D
I do not always manage to use antifreeze, I have a steel fitting.
