Brake caliper bolt, help !!!

Postby fuzzedup » Mon Jul 23, 2018 6:00 pm

Hi all, just a quickie (well hopefully). Could anyone point me in the right direction for a a replacement bolt that holds the caliper housing to the suspension strut. I had to strip the caliper and the bolt is now totally rounded. I need to get this sorted asap as the misses has bocked a trip away this wkend in the van :(
Cheers paul

there are star drive and bolts, three or four different versions depending on which model
find your transit here for the part number, https://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l=

A piccy and year would have helped. Guessing it's a Smiley mk 5 with 5 stud wheels, if not ignore the rest of this.

There are 4 bolts that hold the strut to the caliper carrier then two bolts that hold the caliper to the carrier, Guessing it's the top one that's the problem. These are fitted with thread sealer and appear to be rusted in. You've managed to get them both out but knackered the top one. Refit the caliper using the good bolt at the top. Knock a 12 point socket onto the rounded bolt head and use it in the bottom position until you can get another bolt from the bottom position on a scrapper.

Hi, sorry for not providing the van specs. Its a 99 SWB with 14" wheels (5 stud). And your right it was the top one that gave me the grief, to the point that its totally mangled but its out. The good news is that ive got the other bolt out thats in mint condition so will try my local fasteners suppliers and see if they can match one up (they've done it for every other bolt ive dropped on there counter).

Cheers
