Postby grumpygramps-2007 » Fri Jul 27, 2018 3:41 pm

thought I would have ago at changing the filter when I hit a problem. can not get the big black nut to turn either way so first thing which way is it to loosen it. if I can,t get it off I thought of changing the whole thing ie the part that's bolted to the engine but do I need a special tool to disconnect the pipes sorry by the way its a 2.5di.cheers gramps.

If it hasn't been changed for a while the stupid thumb wheel thing can be stiff to turn.

standard thread so left to loosen.

pipes have the quick fit connectors can't really remember but............

screwdriver or long nose pliers to push the inner bit on the pipe while holding the outer bit and pull back :?

You don't need to replace the housing, just cut the plastic ring off and get that new. The housing is £60-70 if I remember right, I had to buy one a few years ago as I couldn't get get a filter to seal properly, turns out the design was changed at some point to improve the sea, our van must've had an old design.

If you do decide to cut the black ring off, which you shouldn't need to, make sure you have a replacement to hand or you're up a gumtree without a ladder. Locate the two arrows for where the ring should end up when locked, they're marked + and -. Use rag to soak up any spilt fuel and fill the new filter before fitting. Put the ring on your good wrist and locate the filter by turning it whilst holding it firmly against the housing until it .... locates. Slide the ring off your wrist and up to the housing, locate, twist until it clicks in line with the centre mark on the filter head and you're done, ha. It may take few tries but it does work.

I posted pics of the filter head clearly marked. Use the search function to find.

You are using an original filter I hope. :?:

I've had problems with aftermarket filters in the past :(
