Tyre pressures for a mk 5?

Postby rgutsell » Wed Aug 01, 2018 12:14 pm

Hiya

I have a MK5 1997 SWB "Smiley" 2.5 diesel. A van, converted in 1999 to a camper.

I was using pressures designated for the 12 seater bus version (due to it no longer carrying heavy loads) but I have mislaid the accompanying drivers manual, sadly, and I am unable to remember the correct tyre pressures. Contacting Ford service centres etc has not helped. They seem to be as much in the dark as me!

Currently I am using 39psi front and 41psi rear. A Ford service centre suggested 37psi all round. Problem is that I recall the original figures being bigger; more like 41psi/45psi.

Any suggestions?

I used to run my bus at 52 front/48 rear normally, and increased the rears to 52 when fully loaded. That was with 195-14 8 ply tyres
