Postby Shazalina » Sat May 13, 2023 11:12 am

Hi All, I have lost my keys for my mark 3 camper. Nobody seems to be able to help. Can I get a replacement key.?

Might be a little bit late, but will reply anyway in case someone find it helpful in the future.
We lost one of our keys, but the locksmith said the key we had left was too worn to decode the key and make new one. The key number was also not imprinted on the lock body.
Then, we contacted Ford but they said we would have better luck replacing our MK3 van...

Unsatisfied with the unwillingness of both parties, we figured we'd do it ourselves. We got a 'Ford Tibbe Lock Pick' to decode the lock on the car, here's an excellent video that shows how to do it:
https://youtu.be/XctpLHwp3Y4 (or search for the youtube video: Ford "Tibbe" Key Ignition Lock Picked and Decoded)
We had no experience with lock picking, but with some patience and practice we got the lock open and were able to decode the lock. With the 'code' of the lock, we went back to the locksmith and he made new keys for us.

Hope you got it fixed!

Mk3's came from the factory with Chubb locks not Tibbe so your method would only be feasible if the locks have been changed to Tibbe at some time previously.

That is quite a poor response from the locksmith, what he should have said was drop in the fuel cap and we will decode it which should take about 2 mins max, Also if you pop the ignition, it is on that in instacode format.

Another usefull bit of advice I will give, and this if not just for Tibbe but for all your keys, house, car van, TAKE A PHOTO OF THEM !!!
If you get locked out of your car, van or House and you call out a locksmith you will pay for them to decode your lock (if they can) as many facebook so called locksmiths will drill your lock or use an opener.

But ANY half decent Locksmith will be able to cut you a key from a decent photo, with Tibbe you need both profiles, so Side on and flat, This will save you a fortune, and at worst you'll have to pay for programming.

Another thing, If you are ever in an All Keys lost, DO NOT fall for the "you gotta buy 2 keys as I have to program 2 or the van wont accept it", ask them to use a Super or multi chip, these are reusabe and they can put them back in stock.

You only need the side profile, but the top is helpful if there is any query. Not relevant to the OP though who should have chubb locks.

Again not relevant to the OP - but Fords need 2 (or 3) keys programmed in to the system. Certainly with the kit I have in some circumstances you can just add one - but not always. If you are in a lost keys situation there are some (mostly red key type) where you can't programme more in unless you wipe the key data and start again - and you have to programme the minimum number needed in or you get a fault. Admittedly the additional 1 or 2 minimum chips could go back in stock and be programmed in to something else too - but they still need to be in the PATS memory.

None of this is relevant to the original question though! Gotta love a forum :)
