Leaf spring shackle missing washer

Postby meerkatmag » Tue Aug 08, 2023 6:32 pm

I noticed today that the M18 washer is missing from the front leaf spring shackle. It was fitted with new springs about a year ago. The suspension does creak and make a few strange noises. Will this missing washer make a difference? Is it worth me adding it?

Has the nut been changed to a nyloc type?

It's definitely not a nut with a washer built in. Doesn't look like nyloc, just a normal looking nut. Worth me adding a washer then?

If there extra bolt thread showing compared to the other side? maybe someone fitted a shorter bolt with no room for a washer? But adding a washer shouldn't hurt.

I added a washer but in not sure that's the issue. It looks like mechanic has overtightened the shackle and it's crushed the spring hanger onto the leaf spring. So it's quite a tight fit and the creaking noise is probably the springs rubbing on the leaf retainers.

Any advice on what to do here? Just leave it be or does this need new spring hangers?
