on the MK5 transit it is below the battery bolted to the inner wing ,it's a black box with a multi plug going to it , cheers Mick.

Ok I got more info..... I've pulled the pats box and the yellow relay (starter inhibitor ?)

If I short the pins of the yellow relay with a piece of wire with spade terminals, the starter will spin up on the key :D

So I'm more convinced that the pats is shagged

I now need to know what colour wire is the feed to the rim from the pats box :?

The wiring diagrams in the haynes manual are extremely unhelpful

Plug_ yopu dont have a RIM module

The PATS cannot be bypassed on a TD, the ECU has to recieve a varyable voltage from the PATS

On a MK5 the starter relay is under the dash (yellow one next to the pats) MK4 is on the inner wing

Do you have the engine light come on then go out after

On my non turbo the pats LED comes on for 3 secs then off, i think the early TD is the same

Only thing you could do to rule out the PATS is get the module and transponder from another van then have the ECU coded to it

Ok almost time to call it quits...... is there anybody I can call out to fix it ?

Tried the local auto locksmith, described the symptoms.... didnt want to take it on

Tried the local auto electrician, didnt want to take it on....said call auto locksmith

Tried main dealer...said they can book it in for a couple of weeks time

I'm just outside Reading and I'm happy to pay someone who knows what they're doing

Do you think its likely to be fixable without code reading gear :?

Sorry, but you aren't explaining yourself very clearly :!:

The PATS light should come on for a few seconds and go off (with ign. on)

So is it flashing :?:

Have you got other keys with the one you are trying to start it with :?:

Does your key look like a proper Ford one with the chip in it :?:

Have you got a spare key :?:

pats light flashes normally when ignition is off

when you switch the ignition on the pats light stops flashing straight away
