2.5 Di Turbo - Wont turn over * updated * ITS FIXED !!!!!!!

Firstly let me say Hello, and appologise for my first post being a question

I have a 96 Transit based motorhome with a 2.5 Di Turbo motor.

Its been lovely for best part of a year but suddenly refuses to turn over.

I checked the starter by applying 12 volts to activate the solenoid and it spins up but doesnt start.

The PATs led doesnt flash any code, as soon as I switch on the ognition it just switches off.

I've checked all the fuses I can find and they all seem ok.

I've tried all 3 keys and they are all the same.

The problem seems slightly intermittent too, it failed at the weekend and then was ok again this morning but then failed again about mid morning.

Any help gratefully recieved

when you turn key listen for a click from the starter motor solenoid , if it does click but engine does'nt turn over, then starter is u/s, if it doesnt click run a wire straight from battery positive and touch on smaller of the two starter motor wires, if starter spins engine over, check relay ( either piggy backed onto battery tray or in fuse box panel)

Yep tried that.....if I power up the starter, it turns over but doesnt fire

Sounds like a PATS problem. Does the LED light up at all

Check fuses 32 and 33

Is there a clicking from under the passenger side of the dash

Dont think theres any clicking from passenger side of dash

and just checked fuses 32 & 33 with a meter and they are ok

With the key in run, if you engague the starter manually does it still not go

When you turn the ignition on, tell us EXACTLY what lights are coming on and for how long

You should have "engine" "ign" "bat" and your "PATS" light coming on and then the "PATS" light going off after a few seconds

Nope...spins up, but wont start

I have engine, oil, bat lights on the dash - plus the pats lights just stops flashing - it doesnt come on solidly

Where does the pats unit live on a 2.5 turbo diesel

Hi Plug, on my MK5 non turbo it lives behind the passenger side glove box, if you lift the cubbyhole thing out of the top of your dash on the pass side you will see it , cheers Mick.

Sorry not sure what you mean..... are you saying you reckon thats why mine wont turn over ? a faulty rim module ?

I have to say I'm leaning towards just by passing the PATs altogether.....is that possible on mine ?
