As a note, when leak off is moved to front injector, pipe must be routed up-hill away from injector to allow air/bubbles to rise away from injector  :!:

Symptom is miss-fire on 1 cylinder caused by air-lock on top of injector, usually no.1.
Crack that injector, fault clears.
Leak off point is moved to highest point where air gathers,No1 injector, routeing pipe uphill-away from injector allows air to rise away & back to tank.....

Does this miss-fire occur on startup or when running?

Guys, you have just answered my question before I could even ask!! I've got a 98 transit with the later type locking ring filter housing and it's displaying all the symptoms as above... When you drive along and take your foot off the throttle to slow up, the van suddenly begins misfiring. Crack off the injector pipes, its cleared again...

it's a good idea to renew leak off pipes while you're at it, it's only a few quid a roll (even seen it in Halfords!!) and the pipes don't last more than a couple of years before needing to be replaced. They may look ok at first glance, but inspect under the braiding and you may well find they're in a perished state.

...so - does it really suck in via the leak-off ?

I do not quite yet get what is needed to fix it: the filter AND the new leak-off pipes/mod ???
(This is NOT about the money. Just curious !)

Are there any more leaks ?
