Do a long idle, 5/10 mins while hot then blip the throttle, any blue smoke is valve stem seals. What oil have you got in ?
Blue tinged white smoke on start that gets better the warmer the mornings get is a timing cold start issue.

Hi all, checked the oil the other day,and the dipstick was DRY  ,topped it up took nearly 2 litres to bring level to inbetween min and max.
The oil light never came on while driving, thought it would of if it was that low,it does work as it lights up when switching on,the oil in it is shell diesel plus 10-40w. This past couple of days, the smoke in the morning when starting is whiteish with a bit of blue mixed in,,when it starts it idles roughly and after a couple of revs its fine.
Il check the oil again in a couple of days as i say,and if the level is low again, then must be the valve stem valves as steve b and scooby suggested,my garage can't do it at the moment,is it a hard job to do,or can an amatuer like me manage it?

Hi all just an update on this blue smoke, topped the oil up last week, and level is still the same a week on.
I've noticed its every other start-up the blue is coming out, every other time its sort of white strange :?

I'm still gonna get these valve stem seals checked though

Let you know if theres any change

i know it had the cam belt changed about 15000 miles ago,the fan belt was changed a couple of months ago in the service, but the timing belt i have no idea, this is'nt the cam belt is it :?: ,sorry, but what i know about engines you could fit on the back of a stamp  at least im honest

There was no mention about the timing belt in the service though, only bought the van last september
I'l go to the garage 2morow and ask them to check the timing belt, and see what happens-never given this a thought.

The cam belt, or timing belt are the same thing, it might have jumped a tooth, check it out just in case
