Ignition key stuck

Postby birdy » Tue Dec 08, 2009 1:56 pm

Had another ignition key cut at weekend and for reasons to long to go into i got in van and tried to use the newly cut unchipped key i immediately spotted my mistake and went to pull key out of ignition and found it wouldn't come out it would only come out 3/4 of the key length ,after much jiggling of key without success i had to go on a job so held my chipped key nr to barrel and van started as normal .On my return i took van to my mechanic who duly stripped barrel out of van ,initial thoughts were that key was just too new and had too many prominent sharp edges so mechanic filed things down a bit ,it made no difference key would not come out once inserted. It was then spotted by Mechanic what the problem was - as you insert key in ign a little door is pushed to the side to allow key to enter - as you remove key that same little door should open to allow key back out again .On mine the little door was flopping against the key and stopping removal .New barrel required so onto ebay i go i do have a new barrel and keys but didnt want lots of different keys so on ebay i found remoco who supply some genuine ford parts -amongst the parts are new ignition barrel (genuine ford) at £12.90 and for a further £8 they will alter the new barrel to accept your already in use key .So to sum up you can have a new ignition barrel (genuine ford) that works with the keys you currently use for £20 + vat . Location Stockport Gtr Manchester.

Can they supply a new red master key, or is this something only Ford do? My PATS has been bypassed by previous owner and I like to reinstate it if its possible.

Newly cut keys MUST be rubbed on wire wheel to remove the edges left after cutting, otherwise you now know what happens :(
