Landrover wheels.... again!

Postby darkbluevanman » Sun Jun 27, 2010 9:18 pm

I've been tempted to go the landrover wheels (espec now my swb is jacked up slightly) but I have an idea rather than redrilling....
As the pcd on the landy wheels is 5x165 & transit is 5x160 I imagine the landy wheels nearly fit but would obviously leave the orig holes offset, my idea is to fit a laser cut ring of let's say 4mm steel with the correct transit PCD holes and taper over the orig landy holes and weld in place, this would do away with the drilling and the unsightly extra holes, a set can be had new (15") for a little over a ton, what do ya thinks?

Oh... are the landy bolts the same size??

Even better... that 2.5mm difference has just been eaten up without effort ;) .... unsightly?... noooo, not as unsightly as those redundant holes. remember it's mm perfect, a simple jig or even 5 bolts (self centering!) the ring could always have a smaller diameter hole in the centre too as this isn't critical...

and what about welding it on :?: you'd see the welds and that'd look unsightly :!: :D

good point, but we're fabbers not engineers, rings and welding are free, drilling the wheels isn't ;).... are those landy wheels in the piccy?? the pcd looks quite outward on the flange (if you know what I mean?)

ive got a jig to redrill the wheels - bolts up to the landy pcd and you just drill through 3mm holes which are 160pcd
i'd do em you but you could almost make a jig on the lazer - 5x165 holes 12mm and 5x160 3mm's then bolt it up with some old studs drill through the 3 mm with a pistol drill then go through a set of drills untill you get to the 13mm then all you need is a 60deg taper bit to put the nut seat on - piece of piss really :D

then weld the old holes up

O.K, got ya... sound easy enough as you say, gonna order some and go for it.... going for the 15x7" for a better price in tyres, prolly 195/70/15's (poss 205) would suffice?

You can go up to 225/70/15 on your MK5 :)

Right, bought some new 15x7 8 spokes (landrover):

Image

But now I have them I think they are to overkill fandango for me, I've borrowed a couple of pictures off the forum....
The look I want is like Alans white van, but with these wheels I'd end up with the look of the black one underneath, now I can see the difference in the rim offset ('thought' they were all the same!!!)... double bugger (after the leaf spring cock up, not going well).

If anyone is remotely interested in these, they can be had for 90 quid (4 off) and I'll throw in a drilling jig to convert to Transit, or I'd swop for something less sticky out!
