some one told me the other day to block off this pipe off, what will I benefit from doing this :?: cheers

Not sure about the mk5 m8 but does make a difference on later transits but if you wait a little some of the mk5 experts will tell you exactly :D

its a egr feed pipe it will stop your engine breathing its on fart gas

Do it together with the fuel pump mod it will make your transit go better :D

Disabling the EGR on mine made a heck of a difference to the way it drove. Hills which previously were 'flat stick in a low gear' could now be taken with less throttle in a higher gear. Made it much more pleasant to drive. Reduced the smoke from the tailpipe too. Whether this is down to plain old fashioned not having to cane it everywhere, or because the engine is no longer objecting to breathing its own farts, or some combination of both, I know not for certain.
Do it. What have you got to lose?. If you don't like it, you can always put things back as they were.
