Another picture of the engine bay ready to receive the Pinto engine.

A couple of pictures of the engine in place.

The exhaust down pipe while clearing both the steering and the gearbox required a small amount of modification to meet the existing exhaust system but at least this means that the main part of the exhaust system remains standard.

The conversion is now complete, got the customer's truck back soon for dome MOT work so I will get some more pictures up and part numbers/prices of the other odd bits we fitted.
The parts that we manufactured 'in house' will be available for members who are carrying out their own conversions, so let me know if you need anything chaps.

Had the customer's pinto truck back for some MOT repairs, so had a chance to get some more pictures of the completed installation.

The new wiring loom connects to the existing plug adjacent to the off side battery
Image

New heater hoses in place
Image

Power steering reservoir bracket, the reservoir is mounted on the top of the air filter box on the 2.5di.
Image

The modified exhaust down pipe, the new exhaust down pipe was modified to meet the existing 2.5di exhaust, simplifying exhaust silencer replacement in the future
Image

The original 2.5di power steering pump is mounted on the modified bracket, this enable all the existing pipework to be re used without any modification
Image

We are in the process of preparing another pinto engine that will be fitted into the surrogate mother over the next few weeks, this being a Mk5, will require our own modified engine mounting brackets, and give us an opportunity to manufacture a few more for stock as there are forum members waiting for these parts. Pictures will of course be posted :D

The chap that works with me downloaded a Ford Sierra Haynes manual from the internet, it covers the 2.0 dohc 8 valve engine, I can get him to send you the link tomorrow, or today your side of the world
If you are really stuck for parts, pm me and let me know what you need and we will price up for you, not sure how the postage charges would work out to Aus but happy to help another Forum member

Hi mate, a few photos above, let me know what you need to see and I will get the pics up next time we have the customer's truck in. Pics of the next conversion, the Mk5, will be on here soon, build should commence next week :D

No cat would be required on a 1999 van provided it was a commercial vehicle with NO additional seating behind first row, people carriers, ie Tourneo's, and as I understand it, motorhomes are not tested as commercial vehicles so would require a cat and therefore a fuel injection system and not carbs.

Re the LWB rear spring hangers, I will check with my supplier and if available will post in the 'Mk5 body panels' thread

Just a note of caution for all you wishing to carry out this conversion for yourselves in order to meet the LEZ requirements.

These pinto engines are old and use 'old technology', there are engines out there being sold as 'good' and in most cases, they are not! At Light Commercial Services, we pride ourselves in the quality of workmanship and parts we supply to our customers and our definition of 'good' appears to be significantly different to that of others.
As can be seen in the picture, a 'good' engine that had a badly worn camshaft, this was replaced, a faulty head gasket, the head was removed to find this;
Image
As a precaution, from now on, all the pinto engines we install in customer's vans will be fully stripped and rebuilt.
The engine in the picture will receive a re-bore and have new pistons/rings, new crankshaft bearings as well as full gasket/seal replacement.
Any of you having difficulty sourcing good pinto engines are welcome to contact us regarding supply of these rebuilt units, we have a number awaiting rebuild, but we will no longer be supplying pre-used or second hand engines, although we are happy to install 'customer supplied' units.
We will still be supplying the conversion parts to install these engines into your Transits, including our own power steering pump bracket and the replacement engine mountings to suit the Mk5 chassis.
A pinto will be installed in the surrogate mother over the next few days, pictures will follow, enabling another batch of Mk5 engine mountings to be produced.

does the power steering conversion use the 2.5di pump?

can you do a diy kit for this? pulleys / belts bracket etc?

I've already got a di pump, bracket and rack...
