can you do a diy kit for this? pulleys / belts bracket etc?

I've already got a di pump, bracket and rack...

Hi there mate, the power steering conversion uses the standard 2.5di pump and the original steel part of the adjusting bracket. We supply a modified cast iron part, the bit that bolts to the 2.5di engine with three torx bolts. To use this you will need a twin pulley for the pinto engine and a shorter power steering drive belt. We supply the modified cast iron part at £45 to forum members, we will also supply the part number for the shorter gates power steering belt that is required to drive the standard 2.5di pump. All the 2.5di power steering hoses are standard. It is important to specify which engine you have as the fixing bolt diameters are different between the early and late, (202/205) pinto blocks. we also have a stock of twin pulleys should you require one. You are more than welcome to call the works number to discuss your requirements.

The 'freebie' will be re-built as required, but I am saddened to have purchased a 'good running engine' that needed a camshaft, head gasket and still had a holed piston! I think some people should look up 'good' in the Oxford English

Just what I was thinking why go to the trouble of putting in a Pinto ( You may get lucky and find the adaptor plate from an old Mk2 Transit or Granada but easier to find Rocking horse poo) when you could fit a 2lt DOHC much stronger engine chain drive not belt or how about the 2.5 DOHC from the Galaxy. Then all parts can be got from scrap yards or at worst Fords.
It takes thousands of nuts to hold a Transit together but only one nut behind the wheel to distribute them all over the road...

Opps, somehow I jumped and missed about 3 pages didn't realise you already fitted the engine. Looks nice...

reckon the pinto would be

easier to fix ourselves
cheaper to fix
no busted valves if belt snaps
ok lower bhp/worse mpg
would most likely still run after EMP

plus the other fun you can have with carbed engines

We started on the manufacture of Pinto engine mountings to suit Mk5 engine mounting rubbers, this is how we did it.
Plates are made to bolt to the engine

This is the 'tool' we use for the Surrogate Mother to ensure that non standard engines are correctly mounted. This ensures that the crankshaft centre line remains in the same place as the original 2.5di engine. The socket on the end of the shaft is simply changed to suit the engine conversion under development.

Material was cut, profiled and welded in situ, this is the L/H mounting completed. A total of four of these were produced today, the R/H one will be pictured when complete.

We have now completed another batch of Mk5 Pinto engine mountings, these enable the engine to be installed onto the existing vehicle engine mounting rubbers. These are on sale at £50 per pair to Forum members, if you wish to receive further information or purchase these items please send me a pm, this will ensure that the Forum member's discount is applied :D

Hi.

looks like your doing a smashing job on the mods.

I have recently bought an ex police tranny & a week later found out it wasnt lez compliant

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190595765328? ... 097wt_1396

and live in leeds but do regular runs to london.

in a van this size. What kind of mpg do you think a pinto powered 2.6 tonne transit could do? Btw, its 2.6 tonnes After, Seats & cage had been removed.......

And what do you think it would cost in total? including parts & labour to convert this monstrosity to petrol? these queiry's are mainly to reassure myself that all hope is lost. And i need to buy another van.

Thanks.
