mk6 leaking rain water into the engine bay

Postby cmx75 » Tue Mar 23, 2010 6:10 pm

i noticed a bit back under the drivers side of the mat it was pretty corroded around the seat and other places, and that the underneith side of the mat itself was very damp. i had no idea where it was coming from until the other day i got in while it was raining out, i noticed a tiny trickle coming down the wheel arch and down under the mat!.

i tried to trace that back but it got too far up above the pedals to see, but i then noticed while i was under the van that there was water dripping out of a hole in the chassis (this was also caroded around the edges, the hole is suposed to be there). then eventually i found that from what i can tell, water is running down the wind screen, straight through a gap behind the bonnet and landing in a puddle on the air flter housing and going to these various places i have found it.

the gap behind the bonnet doesnt look like anything that wasnt in the design, its exactly the same on the other side. the only thing i can think is that there is somthing missing there.

The water in the cab is probably coming from the windscreen

i had water dripping in and i took the windscreen side trims of and siliconed up the holes and then siliconed the trim on without the clips. alls dry now 8) the drip under the bonnet is probs coming where the trim under the windscreen is i removed the metal gutter piece and siliconed that back on too.

ill have a look at that wind screen seal, never thought of that. if you just cast your eye at the picture where the bonnet meets the seal, to the left there is a slight gutter type thing running down and that just drops straight onto the air filter....not normal? :?
