Clutch starting to slip.

Postby Loafman » Mon Jul 20, 2015 12:21 pm

Hi guys, just a quickie..

I've just been to a bike festival over the weekend in the van and on the way there I noticed that giving the van a boot of throttle in top gear was causing the clutch to start slipping. Once I realised it was doing it I backed off a fair bit and was able to comfortably finish the journey and make it the 100 miles or so home too. It's covered just over 75,000 miles from new, so I guess that will likely be the original clutch etc.

I have been looking at clutch/flywheel kits but am unsure if mine is a solid flywheel or dual mass. I notice the info is available on Ford ETIS for some vans , but sadly not mine. Is there a visual check without removing the gearbox etc?

P.S. it's a 2004 2.0 TDCi 125 280M.. not sure if they all came with DMF as standard.

Ive read somewhere IIRC that you can tell if you take the starter motor off and look in the hole .

75ps fwd 2.0 tddi is a solid flywheel
85ps fwd 2.0 tddi is a dual mass flywheel
100ps fwd 2.0 tddi is a dual mass flywheel
125ps fwd 2.0 tdci is a dual mass flywheel

75ps rwd 2.4 tddi is a solid flywheel
90ps rwd 2.4 tddi is a dual mass flywheel
115ps rwd 2.4 tddi is a dual mass flywheel
125ps rwd 2.4 tddi is a dual mass flywheel
135ps rwd 2.4 tdci is a dual mass flywheel

If different, the only reason could be that it has been converted to a solid flywheel.

Thanks TIMO, great bit of info there. I'll check it out, but I always suspected it was likely to be dual mass. :)

No worries, I'll check the type of flywheel first, although I'm sure it is DMF as it is smooth pulling from low revs. If I can get a cheap DMF I'll change it, but if not and I can get away with just a clutch that would be a bonus! :D

don't be tempted to re-use the dmf, it's false economy.
