Wipers doing their own thing

Postby KevofCov » Sun Sep 24, 2017 8:58 am

Hi
2010 2.4 RWD Trend
I’ve tried a search but no joy.
Wipers are doing their own thing until about 9am (linked to misty/cold screen?) Rest of the day they are fine. The speed will vary and they won’t stop when told to. I have the auto sensor thing on my screen.
Not a huge prob I know but needs sorting with winter coming. Known problem? Any ideas anyone?

Had this before on my freelander when I had it, condensation was getting into the sealed terminals on the motor I had to dig all the old resin sealer out clean terminals and reseal, I'd say defrost condensation but could be in the control box either or somewhere like that maybe even the stalk..

I had this and it ended up being the wiper motor at fault, the parking contacts inside the unit wear out, then the wipers can't park, so the wipers continue going.

I have also experienced this and has Motorman has said was resolved with a new motor unit.
I took the old one apart and there only appeared to be minor wear so you could try cleaning the contacts up in your original motor first.
I took a gamble and replaced the motor unit with a motor factor one as it was nearly half the price of the Ford, twelve months on its still fine.
Can't comment as to the auto wipers influence, mine are old school manual
Good luck

Hi andz327
Yes – auto seems to be worse, moving to stop doesn’t help

Sounds as the 2 previous guys have said then mate new or 2nd hand motor or at least a strip out and open up motor and see if anything visible at contacts
