Mk 7 Intermittent hunting and cutting out on tickover.

Postby Broadsword » Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:10 pm

Got a Mk 7, 2008 115T350, 2.4 tdci, RWD, LWB, Medium roof, and had it for 2 years or so. 62k miles.
Since I got it the van its had an intermittent rough and hunting tickover which is gradually getting worse (ie happening more often), especially when hot and standing at traffic lights, or stopped to reverse. Today it cut out when reversing into a parking space and wouldn't start again, it was trying but engine wouldn't catch. Let it stand for a couple of minutes and started no problem.
When it's not got the rough/hunting tickover it sits at 800 rpm steady. Pulls well through the gears and nothing else obviously wrong. Not showing anything on the codes when read.
Any ideas please?

SCV & PRV change. Check Calibration, update if required an do pump n pilot learns.

Thanks, appreciated.
Is there a check/test that can be done on the old valves to see if they are the issue? Also, is this a Ford Garage job? (ie an arm and leg?)

easy job to check
just remove it from the fuel rail and make sure its in 1 piece internally

Yeah...PRV on back end of fuel rail....if it's not still in one piece, she's gone for...and it'll probably be the SCV which has caused it to blow....However, some PRV's look OK but are still duff...

Not necessarily a dealer job but you'll need someone with IDS or Forscan to do the PRV resets and learns...also a PCM update if it hasn't already been done..!

Ha ha knobby had this all typed out then got sidetract getting little people to bed

Taking it out works for PRV but not for SCV on back of pump.
Recommendation is to do both at same time. You can get valves from the likes of FleeGay but they seem to be more miss than hit, Ford genuine or PF Jones seem to be doing good ones.
For doing the learns it can be done with either a clone IDS, Snap-on, forscan etc but think it's only IDS that will check calibration version.
