Mk 6 Speedo Clocks

Postby dan83590 » Sun Feb 25, 2018 11:43 am

Hi Everyone

Its been a while! The MK6 lives on :)

Its developed a problem with the speedo assembly. Every few hundred meters they stop working, a little tap sees them working again so obvs a bad connection or dry solder joint somewhere. The connector is good so i would like to try another set of clocks.

Is it as simple as buy a 2nd hand set and plug them in?

The digital one I guess but a second hand one might have the same dry solder joints but they don't needed coded

I had the same problem its down to dry joints on the dash board is you are able to remove them then you are able to re solder the dry joints
if you change the whole dash your mile omitter will be out

So it was on the pcb side of the connector?

I had same.... Wiggling the wires and banging the dash worked for a, while....
Eventually I had to replace them (still need to get odometer sorted though.

Yes it was pcb side had to strip the clocks remove needles took photos so I knew where to replace them then used a gps speedo to see how accurate they were within 2mph good enough for me that was 2 under the limit when reading the limit.

I had the same problem but mine would loose power for numerous days. Not very clever when I’m wandering around France!. Also had a problem where I shut off the engine took the keys out and got out of the van and all the instruments were still reading as if I was still motoring !.
Sent the cluster to Revtronic who repaired it and returned within 4 days

The digital ones need the solder joints checked and reflowed with new solder, I've never took one apart but it's not that technical
