What Size is rear hub nut.

Postby Marauder » Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:07 am

2008. fWD 2.2 swb. I'm about to have a go at changing rear discs and pads. But before I order replacements I understand there is a big nut I have to undo. I need to order a socket off eBay.. Can any one tell me the size of big centre nut please.

Thanks for that. 36mm Socket it is then.I just needed reassurance,Now to see how much they are on ebay. Then to TPUK to order the new Discs and Pads. Can you use Lock tight on the Nuts when refitting or do you have to buy 2 new Nuts ?

You will find that Fords original discs are a lot beefier and heavier and don’t forget the pads have to match otherwise they will overheat

Make sure it is a deep socket otherwise you cant get the bloody thing on as it slips off at the last turn.

If you need locktite on the nut you are doing something wrong.

Driveshaft nuts need to be tightend until they break and then back off a quarter turn.

Thanks Guys for the info.I have read somewhere on here that one guy said replace the hub nuts with new ones after undoing them, So that is what made me query the reason as to replace Nuts .It sounds as though I can re-use the original big nuts.. I have also just checked and my Torque wrench only goes to 210Nm , Thinking out loud do I need to buy another Torque wrench that will go up to 350nm area so I can tighten the Hub Nuts up proper when finished, Or just let the Air ratchet Tighten the Nuts until it wont tighten them any more on that 36mm nut...Decisions I have to make lol.

Aye....and Aye...!!

The rear hub nuts on the FWD are little girlie ones compared to the manly 65mm RWD nuts.. Left side nuts are left hand thread too..!

True...but you do have a diff buried in the gearbox there somewhere....and you only have a choice of 2 diff ratios ....not like the 37 different ratios like us "manly" RWD owners.

I'll run you against mine.. Also...yours will die before it gets to any decent speed won't it..??

29psi..?? I hope that's "absolute" pressure and not gauge pressure..?? Mine has seen ~23-24psi a few times but it's real psig, not psia..!

Yep gauge pressure  but only when the loud pedal is in the carpet from the off, normal driving its about 20 psi and you can hear it dump pressure on gear changes at 20 - 23 psi with the cone filter, its eating its tyres though  N
