Fitting a battery to battery charger

Postby Backbone of Britain » Sat Jul 21, 2018 11:27 pm

Currently converting my mk7 into a motorhome and I'm in the process of fitting all the extra wiring. I have a sterling battery to battery charger to fit to charge my leisure batteries. Question is which battery do I connect to under the seat? Do I connect to the starter battery or the aux battery?

Thanks
Duncan

Whats the charger draw?

The accessory connections behind the drivers seat are good for 60A (or 100A I can remember which) and they are fused too.

I don’t want to connect to the customer connection point behind the seat as this won’t be accessible once the build progresses I have already got flexible conduit through the hole in the side of the seat base with cable in place.

I remember those connections points were hard to access.

Remove the seat and wire it to one of them from insde the seat base.

So it doesn’t matter which battery it gets connected to then?

you can just hook it onto the front (aux) battery and fuse it separatly. never connect stuff to the starter battery, if stuff goes wrong you drain the starter battery and you are stuck.

Thanks Dutch guy, that’s good advice. I will connect it to the aux battery.
Cheers

Had mine on my mk8 it’s connected to front battery with no problems I rang sterling and that’s what they advised me to do all though I have seen elsewhere the opposite advices
