ECU Part No - what swaps?

Postby Jim Archer » Fri Jul 20, 2018 7:01 pm

Having chased my self up my own arse with my 2010 Jumbos' not starting issue  , the only thing I haven't now swapped/replaced several times is the ECU. What do I need to have Part No wise to match? Present one is AC11 - 12A650 - CB.

At cranking, the rail pressure comes up, it fires 1 cylinder, rail pressure falls on it's arse, couple of turns for the pressure to come back up, fires 1 cylinder, rail pressure drops out again. No fault codes other than stuff being disconnected and over cranking. Fires and runs instantly all the time it's getting a bit of sniff. As far as IDS is concerned there appears nothing wrong other than not holding rail pressure - I'm no expert with IDS so not sure what I'm looking at to be honest.

The only other thing attached to the engine I haven't done is change the main vehicle loom, but surely that would show a code?

If I track down a suitable ECU, what is involved with pairing it with immobiliser, BCM, ABS, etc?

I'm guessing your PRV has blown....they don't throw up a fault code.

Had a new Ford PRV, plus a whole known good rail assy from a running donor - and that runs fine with my rail.

Nothing coming from the valve outlet when cranking.

If it runs ok with a donor fuel rail but not with yours then I'd suggest the fuel pressure sensor.

However you've seen fuel pressure when cranking so there must be some signal coming from the sensor back to the ecu.
What rail pressure do you get when cranking ?
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

That's the thing, it doesn't run with the donor rail. The donor van (a 125) runs happily with my rail.

I can't recall what the cranking pressure it reaches is - 26000(?) - as it only very briefly holds it, and ECU away for 10 days for testing.

Have you got ids? Have you tried doing a pcm update? I generally find that a successful update means (generally) that the pcm is ok as the calibration gets verified and loaded.

You can get another pcm and get it working on your van with ids and pats, 2 keys most likely.
You should be able to get another pcm AC11 (60 plate?) And if you feel that your pcm is ok then you can do a module replacement suck and blow to your new pcm but you can't be 100% sure that any fault won't get sent across. Installing new software to a pcm is slightly more tricky.

Before all that you need to read fault codes with forscan and or ids.

You need to be sure that everything is ok, the fuel rail pressure will come on then drop if there is a problem with electronics, scv, battery, module etc and also the injectors turned off to save engine.

So I wouldn't look too much at the rail pressure as a fault.

Did you check every fuse?
Did you bypass the fuel filter head?
Crank and cam sync?
Ignition key?
Batteries?
Relays r4/r6/r8?

So the pcm i believe is.

Jim have you swapped crank sensor as Loot says :?: I would also be checking the chain. To eliminate the ecu swap the ecu and bcm and blue bit of key it should run even if its not the same ecu .
On the sixth day God created a Sprinter on the seventh he gave it away and bought a TRANSIT

Haven't checked crank sensor or timing as live data says sync'd. Surely it would throw a code if not?

Hadn't considered swapping the 125 bits over as assumed mine being a 140 would be different enough for calibrations etc to prevent it running anyway.
