windscreen price?

Postby jamesdhaigh » Fri Nov 21, 2008 12:49 am

evening all
how much should i be looking at for a new windscreen for a mk 6?
its got a good crack in it and its due the mot thats the only thing it should fail on as it had brakes & brake pipes etc done last year,
auto glass quoted me silly money and im only 3rd party so the insurance dont want to help, and works a bit thin on the ground so moneys tighter than a a ducks ass... might have to end up selling it as salvage if i cant get the windcreen done at a good price :x

Your better of shopping around for one , the major companies charge way too much , Try and find an independant one man band fitter ,they tend to be cheaper , Im currently paying £130 for a bog standard Mk6 screen fitted .

Bloody hell. Thats a lot cheaper than i thought it would be. Mine's the same, big crack across it so need mine doing. Would i be able to have it replaced with a heated screen? Is the wiring already there for it? What would it involve? Thanks.

thats a bit more affordable!
rac autoglass rang me up and said that the price because it needs clips and trim will be £368 or £386,at which point the conversation was over for me
then she said well let me do you a bit of discount on that (taptaptap) oh we can do it for £280 odd
but im sure when i went ot see them a few weeks ago at my local one the lad there said 'oh yeah mate we do quite a few of them il do it for £150' but because it was early i wasnt sure if id been paying attention!
im in bradford west yorkshire if anyone knows a good deal of a place
cheers

I had my windscreen replaced on insurance. It was a standard screen and I had an electric heated screen replacement for the cost of £50 excess.
Does anybody know how I should be connecting it? There are wires already in to connect it but i'm unsure of the relays and timer required for the wiring that is already present. According to Ford, there are 4 relays and a timer relay. The handbook says 3 fuses and 3 relays.
Anybody know the correct answer? Anybody have a wiring diagram for it? It is an 04 plate, 125/350 xlwb high roof model.
Where do I find a wiring diagram???
