Dog Slow mk6 mwb t280 100ps

Postby Upthekernow » Thu May 17, 2012 7:33 pm

Hi All, I'm new to the site and to transits in general and could do with a few pointers please.
I recently bought a clean 2006 mk 6 mwb 100ps transit with 95000 on the clock and im pretty happy with it, however it is painfully slow especially on hills, in fact any kind of gradient usually needs third gear my work mates vivaro with 100ps is like a Ferrari compared to my van, and my van is very lightly loaded except for me ahem.

It starts, idles and runs fine and will rev up to 4000rpm with no hesitation or missing in the lower gears so I don't think it's in limp mode, glow plug light come on with ignition but goes out with the other warning lamps, van will struggle to do 80mph and I mean struggle.
Under load there's a bit of black smoke from the exhaust but nothing startling, fuel and air filters are new and I believe the inlet manifold has been replaced as it was cracked so I've been told
I've searched the forum and the egr could be a suspect so for a minute I've blocked up the vac hose until I get a blanking plate, this has not had any effect so far.
The best way to describe it, it is like it has no turbo

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I've contacted Martyn at vantuner and will have it mapped at some stage, he suggests 100ps transits are normally pretty quick so mine must have a fault.

You'll gain a nice list of stuff here for you or your next garage to work through :)

Heres something random & easy though to start with -

Unplug the MAP sensor, then drive it & see if performance or smoke changes, if it doesn't or hardly does then you may have a boost leak as the MAP sensor effectively reads boost & a "high" reading sent to the ECU means high fuel & high power, (provided no other fault is present).. .. if you look at the intercooler, the map sensor & its connecting plug , on many 100's is right after it, almost connected to the intercooler itself... often, boost leaks are accompanied with a slight hissing or whistling as you put foot down but make little progress

Thanks Martyn

Had a good look around last night and found the map sensor, at the same time I also found a big split in the intercooler which is definitely leaking a lot so reckon that's my problem.

Thanks for the tips, does anyone know if any mk 6 intercooler will fit? They certainly all look similar
