Kind of got the feeling that was the case, are you sure about the EGR being able to be replaced alone, can't quite find the link but thought I read somewhere that its part of the manifold or something.

Apologies for my complete ignorance on this stuff

Don't have to apologise fella...I'm far from being an expert...!!

It just bolts on to the egr cooler and the link tube to the inlet manifold...that came
from the best Ford Tech in the Westcountry...
I just txt him to check as Ive always had Rwd and wondered if yours was Fwd....

No completely wrong, your dealer is full of crap, I can pull mine off and de-coke the valve and grease the motor gears and re fit in less than 30 min.

If that fails, it looks like this:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-TRANSIT- ... 33752f21b3

Think I'll go down the take off and clean route first of all, the link you sent says for engines 2.2+ mine is a transit connect so not sure that would fit?

Hi, thanks for all the advice.

I have been running on Esso 0r BP fuel, and the EGR valve light has not come back on.

The van seems to run better as well.

Juts to let people know the EML is a failure in mot stations if it is on. It is the same with any other warning lights.

The Eml light isn't an mot failure, its only an advisory if its on, it normally only causes the vehicle to fail the Mot if its effecting the engine in any way, like emissions ect ect

It certainly isnt a failure. Mine just passed an MOT 4 weeks ago with the light happily glowing a warm shade of amber.

Just changed my EGR valve today, and cleared the fault codes with:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-PC-DIAGNO ... 255d6bac13

and this software:

http://obd2spy.com/oscommerce/index.php ... 19482ab2d9

Works a treat, and you can see whats going on, for less than £40....

I have only used, ESSO, BP, and SHELL and the EGR Light has remained off.

If I put supermarket fuel, Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, the light comes back on.

Total takes it off,

Strange

Am I in the twilight zone

When you strip out the valve, and inspect the assembly, you will find that there isnt much inside. Im pretty sure if you dismantle the end cap, and give it a good clean with electrical contact cleaner, it would work properly. There is a resistance track that gets sooted up with carbon, so this could be giving false readings. Poor fuel soots it up, clean fuel cleans it... Just an educated guess.

I'll post a picture of the valve so people can see..!!
