Speed limiter removal

Postby hdndriver » Wed Feb 22, 2012 9:19 pm

My mk7 2.2 110 has a factory fitted limiter which i want removed, several tuning companies have quoted me £150+vat. I spoke to my local ford dealers and they will do it for £70+vat providing i give them written permission. My problem is that i then told them i'd had my van remapped and they have said that when they plug in there computer it may fry my ecu, i dont mind if they wipe the map as tuning company will put it back on for free but i just wanted to know if they are scare mongering or is there a real chance of screwing it up, also will they do a pcm update at the same time ? Any advice would be extremely helpful.

You need to speak to Martynx for the definitive answer but I think it's extremley unlikely that your ecu would be fried, but it'll almost certainly wipe the map.

Martynx can do the limiter without removing the map afaik.

I had the 70 mph speed limiter removed from my MK6 at the dealer cost me £75+vat. Like you said I had to give written permission for them to remove it and produce the V5 to prove I owned the van. It never fried my ecu so can't see that happening. Can't see any problens as all they do is plug it in to IDS and turn the speed limiter off. 5 minute Job but they'll probably keep you waiting 1/2 an hour  It will only wipe the map if they update the pcm.

they dont touch the map when removing the limiter,

the limiter is done thru the car config, only limiter in the map is the 100 mph
