I'm not convinced myself, but I don't have the means or the inclination to start welding, and paying someone gets a bit expensive, as it all starts breaking out once it starts; I had that problem with the Mk6 which cost me as much in welding repairs as it did to buy in the first place, and it still failed the MOT on rust the following year.
I will start looking, in case something nice comes up at the right price
