Well, I'd better post some photos, since if I don't, Punto will be claiming that it never happened...

One mangled clutch:

Curiosity got the better of me and I cut the driven plate apart to see what broke.

Notice the ring above and just to the right of the driven plate - a couple of splits in it. Plus a few of the small springs are completely knackered.

And, to change the topic to "What did your Mk6/7 do to you today?":

The large chisel I was using to lever the gearbox off the engine slipped and squashed my thumb against the chassis crossmember that runs under the engine

I blame Tango and Brains for goading me into doing the job

I spent a few minutes organising my Transits next move from garage to garage today, arranging for it to be taken from a garage to another one.
Hopefully this time to a garage thats not going to bugger about.
2nd time I've had to do this in 2 weeks.

Tomorrow I should have an accurate appraisal of what the problem is, and after Ford making it seem it would be easier for me to walk on the moon than persue a successful warranty claim on what is only a 6 month old clutch and flywheel I presume I'll be paying for them again tomorrow.

Fitted a Hykee lock to my drivers door. Took me twenty minutes just to get the retainer pin pushed in on the original lock - just could not get it to move. Once it did, it was easy peasy. I feel a lot happier now as there has been loads of vans nicked or broken into locally in the last few weeks.

Ok girls just get a decent size needle, heat to red hot and pin right through nail and relieve the pressure, saves your nail from coming off

Well been offered the van at a reasonable price so going to be the official owner of two 2008 mk7 115/350 vans soon! So had it hooked up and recheckrd for any codes, all good, then whipped off the speed limiter and changed the radio to 4 speakers so can get some in the back for working.
Going to need a bit of talc as it's had a few drivers an done 159k. It's got a bit of a whiney diff and one or two minor bits to get sorted but it's had bonnet and windscreen roof panel painted last year so looks good from the front.
Happy days.

heehaw tae see here, please shift along.

Yeah, that pin is a bitch. I ordered my aftermarket lock about 2 mins after I found the lockpick thing for the original on amazon for 20 quid.

Not yet. I've got the old one off now, but not fitted the new one yet. Still got the difficult bit of centering it up without disturbing the self-adjusting mechanism to come.

Buy a tool off ebay Mate, about a fiver. that's what i did when I swap the Land rover gearbox and clutch.

Did you sort out the prop shaft :?: I checked and there is a little stub sticking out the back of the box which fits into a bearing inside the rubber doughnut, had me going for a bit :?
