Nah....it's an aerodynamic aid..!

It'll be more aerodynamic when I put a strip of white duct tape over it to match the other side!
Anyone who has done a mk7 facelift got any decent wings?

Nearly had the mk7 written off by some dozy bint who pulled out in front of me when I was doing 50ish. Thank god I had already delivered the mk6 engine or it might have joined me in the front.

My gearbox came today.
18000 miles
Image
My spidy senses are telling me that it wasn't motorway miles  Image
The gear selector seems smooth tho, but the selector arms feel a bit loose up and down and the small seal seems a bit worn and there's fine wear groves in the selector shaft.
The thrust bearing feels smooth and lubricated when i spin it but pushing it in and out feels rough.
And when i put it in gear and spin the output flange the input shaft feels like the bearing is rough, is that normal?
Plus there's contamination in the bell housing, not conducive of a van that has only done 18k, although it is a 10 plate.Image
It has 2.2 stamped on the casing, i hope these are universal. :?:

Cheers, can get a slave cylinder from tpuk for 30 pounds, anyone recommend doing that? I wonder how much Ford want :?
Thinking of changing the seals too but i might split the box to have a look at all the bearings etc, really don't want to fit it and find out i was taken the piss out of, that would really spoil my day :(
Also wondering if i should spend 90+on Ford gear oil or buy the cheap stuff?

Yes :-) i lifted it today and thought it was quite light considering, I'll just shove it on, I'm going to service and clean it and I'm going to paint it too 8)
Just don't want to be buying bearing kits etc for it :?

O think it's oily grime from being removed, i hope so anyway lol, there's grime in the bell housing too, probably brake fluid splattered from a failure, input bearing feels rough :-(

The van was shown with 18k on the clocks and was also listing other parts off it but you just don't know with eBay sellers.
You think it has been worked on before?

Loot...Does it look like there's fresh-ish sealant on the split lines?? This might give a clue to whether it's been apart recently or not. If the input shaft bearing feels rough...it probably is, it may have had a SMF prior to you getting it, some of them are known to give the input shaft bearing a hard time.

I know it's a pain but it might save you some grief if you split it open and make sure all it's gubbins are good to go. Would be a right ball-ache to get it in your van to find it's not happy..! :( If you do go that far, it'd be silly not to replace seals, concentric cyl, throw-out bearing etc...

Are you able to select all gears, (including reverse), and then turn it over by hand using the output & input shafts? This may help determine if there's any other issues. Does the box still have it's original oil....would pay to drain it and see if there's any "floaties" or solid bits in it..!

Get a good strong magnet, put it inside a couple of plastic bags and drain the oil over it.
Any steel fragments will stick to the magnet.
Put the oil on an empty, clear drinks bottle and leave for a few days to see what else settles out.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small
