More powerful speakers are heavily constructed and need more power to move the cone as fast, cause it's heavier, and produce the same sound volume.
This means you're pushing your amp hard. When the amp is pushed, it distorts with sharp points in the output, not a smooth waveform. This is what damages the speakers.
It's pretty much impossible to blow speakers with too much power, they just stop responding more as you ramp up the power, and you'll lose the high frequency. I've seen 50w amps and 20w speakers 20 years old when I was in the electronics business.
I suggest getting lower power speakers, matching the amp or 20% below. You'll get more volume too. Counterintuitively, the bigger the speakers you buy, the more likely you are to break them.
