MK7 Security Problem, Rear Door Central Locking Loom.

Postby paulrichardson » Mon Sep 24, 2012 8:50 pm

Hi Guys,

I was reading a thread the other day (can't find it now) from a guy whose van van broken into and his tools were stolen.

I think he said the tea leaves cut through the central locking loom which runs to the Rear Doors and you can see from outside the Van.

My question is, would cutting that loom open the door?

I wouldn't have thought it would un-lock by cutting the loom, but if it does, I'm definitely going to get one of these off ebay

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Paul.

It should have been sorted on yours, because Ford have been aware of the fault for years :?

Having said that, it's probably worth protecting the loom, because cutting it will disable the central locking, and be an expensive pain to sort out, even if they don't get in

The doors should not open by cutting the loom, the system was modified under recall on the mk6, but still worth fitting the loom guard, because its cheaper than a new loom when some lowlife tries to cut it any way

I didn't think that this effected the Mk7, people can break in via the door lock though......

Hi thanks for that,

Are you saying it is EASY to break in via the door lock, or is it the same as all other locks?

Paul

Tibbe locks in general are easy to unlock, especially with a tibbe pick. Unfortunately these picks end up in the wrong hands..

It was me who's van was emptied.
technically, later model vans should be sorted so that you just have to buy a new loom for about £130 I was quoted from Ford (or more if they do both rear door looms) but I have spoken to and read about people with 09 and 10 plate transits and connects who have been robbed like I was ....by thieves cutting the loom and it opened their vans.

So it would defo be worth doing the steel plate mod on both sides.

I am also fitting new door locks (hi security ones) and armour plates for the door locks (kit available if you google it)

I have worked out it will be much much cheaper than being robbed when my van is full of tools again...

Its possible if they are desperate enough!!
and the scum seem to be getting more desperate every day!!

I am in the process of fitting an ABUS security padlock hasp , latch and another discus padlock.... so thats the side door taken care of.
Although the side door doesnt have a lock, its still a weak point for a determined thief with a breaker bar!

Is there a simple replacement lock, to give additional security.

My van will be a camper (eventually) and I don't really want to stick, big external locks on the doors.
