Starter Motor Brush Box Replacement

Postby tonyreef » Thu Nov 22, 2012 9:54 pm

Hi Guys,

After having problems with my starter motor, I discovered that the problem was caused by muck inside gunging up the brushes and armature. Since the brushes were fairly worn I replaced them (about £18 off ebay), cleaned the armature and hey presto it now works fine.

What I wanted to share was a YouTube video I came across that shows how to dismantle and replace the brush box. The tip of using a socket to hold back the brushes was a real help!

hope it helps someone.

Nice one, knackered brushes seem to be my problem at the moment.
Kicking myself for forking out on new battery first though, suppose I shouldn't grumble too much though as I reckon the Motorcraft one that was in the bus has probably been in there since new.
Diesel smiley lwb minibus running on anything legal, combustable and cheap.
