Hi mate, I have an ASM automatic transit crew cab pick up that has a small issue with the gearbox, using it to carry the race COSSY.

the most annoying thing it does is that if i drive it for over an hour on a freeway in top gear, sometimes it makes the most horrible noise trying to change down from 5th to 4th when i get to the off ramp in Auto mode but if i change gears manually its ok. but then it doesnot do it all the time. the other thing it does is if i turn a corner and its in third gear auto sometimes it wont then change up or down so to change gear then i push it to manual then straight back to auto and its OK for a bit. It becomes an interesting drive you never actually know when or what fault will happen next.

here is some info, with the original electric motor typically the bearings seize and cause problems with motor overheating and eventually burning itself out prematurely.
We offer a replacement motor that bolts right in and needs to be connected to original harness.

we do have other parts like replacement commutators and rebuilt motors or seal kits
best is to contact by email as we don't check this forum that often

Well after 5 and a half years I finally got of my lazy arse and fixed this.
After disconnecting the battery I removed the two bolts that hold the airbag/horn assembly to the steering wheel.
It was then pretty easy to remove the gear switches with wiring harness.
Pretty easy to pry open the switch assembly to reveal the small circuit board.
The switches are operated by a couple of micro switches.
With having better access I thought I'd try to clean with contact cleaner again and blow it out with compressed air but this didn't fix it.
Bought a couple of 4 pole micro switches (only 95 cents each), soldered them into place and it changes gears beautifully now. Should have done it ages ago lol :)

These are the switches I ended up using (the 3.5 mm ones)
